Tons of playoff action being discussed in this weeks edition of the Week End Wrap Around:
Again, I’m thoroughly impressed with what the EHL does as a Tier 3 League and how they operate. From the league structure and games played all the way to the website design and information, they get high marks in my book (which is soon to be on the NY Times Best Seller List).
Without further ado, congratulations to the New Hampshire Avalanche on winning the EHL league championship for the 2nd year in a row, as well as the 2nd year of the franchise’s existence! The Avalanche beat the Flyers despite a late comeback to the score of 4 to 3 in the single game championship.
TDC’s MVP of the Playoffs:
I hate doing this because it feels like a goaltender always has to be named or it wouldn’t be fair so I’m going to go with a skater and goaltender.
Skater: Niks Krollis , Defenseman, 3 goals + 7 assists in 6 games
Goalie: Nathan Pickett, Goalie (duh), 1.17 GAA and a .957 SV%
I only find the text in this tweet funny in the sense of the slip up in spelling and the fact that the team just got back from being at a grade school. Outside of that it’s great to see junior hockey teams giving back to the community and being role models to the youth of today!
Outside of that, the Mudbugs (awesome name) punched their ticket into the Robertson playoffs with a win over Corpus Christi.
We’ve got 2 playoff spots open with one of them going to go to the Northeast Generals or the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights and the Corpus Christi IceRays or Topeka Pilots due to divisions.
The Playoff picture is becoming clearer and the excitement will be a buzzing this upcoming weekend.
In the Western Conference we have 4 teams pushing around to get the final 3 playoff spots, though I think the Des Moines Buccaneers and the Fargo Force have theirs locked up. Sioux City is going to have to prove they deserve that final spot as they get 2 games against the leagues best team, the Tri-City Storm and they also play the Fargo Force who are only a single point ahead of them in the standings. The Omaha Lancers on the other hand, who are 3 points back with 3 games remaining, get the 16 wins and 31 losses Green Bay Gamblers twice as well as a single game against the Madison Capitals of 13 wins and 37 losses.
Should be a fun and interesting weekend!
Well, the league finals are all set for this weekend for the NCDC and hey, it was pretty easy to find all the information on the website! (Only took me a month and a half to figure it out)
With the Connecticut Jr. Rangers defeating the Islanders Hockey Club 2-0 in their series they get to face off against the Boston Jr. Bruins who took a nail biter of a series 2-1 against the Northern Cyclones. Each game in the Bruins-Cyclones series was won by a single goal, only with game 3 having an empty netter making it a two goal difference. Congrats to the Cyclones on giving the Bruins everything they had.
This weekend the Jr. Bruins and Jr. Rangers will face off in a best of 3 series for the Dineen Cup!
Choosing one of these teams is like choosing your favorite Olsen twin. Both teams are nearly identical and have goalies that are on fire and both had awesome seasons that only separated them by 4 points. Just have some fun!
It’s FRASER CUP WEEKEND and this past weekend had more sweeps than under my bed (seriously, send me a maid service).
The only series to go 3 games was Helena versus Great Falls, with Helena winning.
The only upset was the St. Louis Jr Blues beating the Coulee Region Chill, but we are talking about two teams who were 1 point away from each other in the standings.
Nonetheless, here’s a list of the teams playing for the league championship.
Pool A consists of: L/A Nordiques, Helena Bighorns, and North Iowa Bulls
Pool B consists of: Binghamton Junior Senators, Texas Brahmas, and the St. Louis Jr. Blues.
I’m really torn on who to pick, as the league is so scattered with tough divisions and easier divisions, but I’m going to say it will be one of the teams from the A pool who wins it all.
Next Weeks Wrap Around will be full of awesome playoff info and action!
