Relocating and Rebranding

May 11, 2019

The deck continues to shuffle during the NA3HL off-season. Numerous teams are either relocating, changing names, or both. The latest move comes courtesy of the hockey team formerly known as the College Station Spirit. Honestly, the Spirit already had a pretty cool logo and some nice sweaters. As of next season, the College Station Spirit will become the Texas RoadRunners. One thought on the new logo, as a huge car enthusiast, I think it looks a lot like the Thrush exhaust logo. That makes me love it even more. I'm really eager to see what the sweaters look like.

It appears that College Station wanted to clean house and get a fresh start after an abysmal 2018-2019 campaign. They only were able to manage 2 wins all season with both of those wins happening at the showcase in Minnesota. The only other point they scored was forcing league rivals the Atlanta Capitals to overtime towards the end of the year. So it looks like owner Don Stone decided to flip it on its head and start again. They also announced a new head coach and that new man at the helm for the RoadRunners is Ryan Egan, who has coaching experience in the NAHL, NA3HL, and Saint Mary's University. So this coaching change should bring an immediate turn around for that organization.

So with the Rebranding of the College Station Spirit that brings the NA3HL rebranding, relocating, and expansion number to seven.

- College Station Spirit become the Texas RoadRunners

- Cape Cod Islanders move and become the Canton Cubs

- Niagara Falls PowerHawks move and become the Danbury Colonials

- Binghamton Jr Senators move and become the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles

- Oswego Stampede move and become the New England Knights

- Wisconsin Whalers move and become the Sheridan Hawks

- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights are added to the league

I am certainly excited to see if any jersey concept photos come out. If anyone from these organizations reads this, we would certainly love to see those sweaters and post a picture or two. Also, camps and combines are in full swing with guys trying to get tendered for the upcoming season. While the off-season can seem pretty drab, there is so much going on behind the scenes that it gets me excited for next season to get here. Once the Stanley Cup playoffs end that will only exasperate that anticipation, even with my beloved Columbus Blue Jackets falling to the evil empire. The Stanley Cup playoffs have been so much fun to watch this year, I'd hate for it to be ruined by seeing the Bruins win it. I would be perfectly fine with any of the remaining teams winning it, except Boston.

On the Junior side of things, the Robertson Cup playoffs (NAHL) are down to their semi-finals starting May 10th.

Aberdeen Wings Vs. Amarillo Bulls

Johnstown Tomahawks Vs. Fairbanks Ice Dogs

I'll take Amarillo and Johnstown in the finals and give me Amarillo to take it all.

The Clark Cup Finals are here that's the USHL. Starting on May 10th the Chicago Steel will take on the Sioux Falls Stampede. I like the Chicago Steel

College commitments continue to roll in. It's great to see a lot of guys going to continue their playing careers in college at a variety of different levels. Some of the teams that have taken the most NA3 guys include:

Franklin Pierce University

St. Mary's University

Anna Maria College

St. John's University

Augsburg College

A full list of college commitments is located on the leagues website here.
