14-year-old Gavin McKenna Has 4-point Debut In WHL

Gavin McKenna, in his Western Hockey League (WHL) debut, tallies a total of 4 points. That is insane. This kid is taking over Major Junior and it’s going to be an exciting year for him.

McKenna was the number 1 overall draft pick in the WHL and notched four assists and was named the game’s First Star. He also finished +2 on the night while leading his team in points.

McKenna’s father, Willy and mom Krystal, along with a group of friends and relatives attended the game.

“It went really well,” said Willy McKenna. “I don’t think it could have gone any better than the way it did. Obviously, if he would have scored, that would have kind of topped it off but yeah, he had a good night and he’s definitely getting a lot of attention these days, that’s for sure.”

It’s cool putting up 4 assists in your first game as a 14 year old, it’s even cooler being able to do it in front of your family.

Gavin McKenna – Elite Prospects Profile

I mean… Elite Prospects has projected him to get 264 points this year. Which, at this rate of having 4 assists his first game, is not impossible. He had a breakout year in 2021-22 with the Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna U18 team totaling 65 points, so he is definitely a gamer and knows how to get on the stat sheet.

This kid is definitely someone to watch for this upcoming season and I for sure am interested in just how many points he gets this year. Given that he is only 14 years old, he’s got a long career ahead of him, so who knows how many career points he will have. 10,000? Who knows…
