
Trimble’s Drill of the Week- Breakout to Regroup 2 on 1
Position your players, split into forward and defenseman groups, like this on the ice. Pucks are with the forwards.

On the whistle 1st forward soft dumps it into the near corner where the Defenseman has to retrieve it. The first 2 forwards swing wide covering the strong side and middle lane options on the breakout. They then get a pass from the Defenseman and advance the puck through the neutral zone.
The other end has done the same thing, so as the two forwards enter the neutral zone, they should communicate to the far Defenseman. Passing to the far D, they will again swing and get a regroup pass from that far Defenseman before attacking the near D that they broke out with 2 on 1.
