Development, Leadership, and Life: Books for Your Player or Coach

Development, Leadership, and Life: A Look at My Books

Five books for growing as a player, a coach, and a person.

Over my years in hockey, I’ve learned that development takes intention. Players need direction. Coaches need to keep learning. And all of us face challenges that require perspective, support, and a willingness to grow.

That belief carries through my writing. Some of my books focus directly on hockey, while others explore leadership and the personal struggles we carry beyond the rink. For readers of The Hockey Development Hub, here’s a brief introduction to five of my books.

Fix Your Game

For players who want to take ownership of their development.

Wanting to improve is a start. Having a plan helps turn that desire into action. Fix Your Game is a hockey development workbook built around setting goals, tracking habits, and reflecting on progress throughout the season. It encourages players to become more accountable and purposeful about the work they put into their game.

Why Hockey Players Don’t Develop

For coaches and parents asking how to better support player growth.

More ice time and a busy schedule don’t automatically lead to better hockey players. This book examines the question at the heart of its title and encourages readers to look more closely at how we approach development. It challenges us to think about the environment we create and whether our decisions are helping players make lasting progress.

The Hockey Planner

For bringing more organization and purpose to the season.

A hockey season moves quickly. The Hockey Planner helps readers keep their goals and progress in focus amid the demands of practices, games, and everyday responsibilities. It reinforces a simple idea: being busy is easy; making consistent progress requires a plan.

Beyond the Scoreboard

For readers interested in the leadership and life lessons that come through sports.

The final score tells only part of the story. Beyond the Scoreboard explores how communication, trust, and the environments we build influence the people around us. It looks at the responsibility we have to develop stronger people alongside stronger players—and how those lessons extend into life outside hockey.

Two Hearts

For readers looking for an honest story about seasonal depression, faith, and hope.

Two Hearts is my most personal work, sharing my experience with seasonal affective depression alongside research and information that help give that experience context. It explores difficult seasons, the importance of connection, and the search for a way forward. My hope is that readers facing their own struggles will feel less alone and more able to talk about what they are experiencing.

Thank You for Supporting My Work
