Trimble’s Drill of the Week – The Flank Game – Great Small Area Game for Power Play Skills

The Flank Game- Great Small Area Game for Power Play Skills

  • Set up the game as a Cross Ice Game- With two teams and Goalies in the nets
  • Position 2 players from each team (the Same Color) on the outside of each in faceoff circle- As a rule these two players can not enter the circle and can not go above the top or bottom of the circle.
  • Game begins with a 2 v 2 (new players) entering the game on the whistle and competing for a loose puck in the zone sent out by the coach.
  • When team gets possession of the puck, they attempt to score on the opposite net, using their flank players – This makes it a small area 4 v 2 game.
  • On changes of possession of the puck, team has to defend its own net against the 4 v 2 created by the opposite team.
  • A lot of great skills and fundamentals occur in this game- Passing, Recognition, Awareness, Shooting… all within a small area.
  • ENJOY!
