Western USPHL Update: The Movie Quote Version

NORTHWEST DIVISION

BELLINGHAM BLAZERS (0-10-1) “You want to get out of the hole? First you’re going to have to put down the shovel.” (Incredibles 2, 2018) Bellingham was oh so very close to their first wins this weekend – but the team is starting to learn to play together, so it’s time to shake off past games, learn from mistakes, and find that win column.

ROCK SPRINGS PROSPECTORS (4-2-1) “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?” (Dirty Harry, 1971) Rock Springs had this weekend off – and they’ll need the rest-up, because they have the #1 ranked team in the country stopping in for a visit starting Friday … and I expect Coach Randall’s team will be ready for the challenge.

ROGUE VALLEY ROYALS (2-5-0) “Wait a minute, wait a minute. You ain’t heard nothin’ yet!” (The Jazz Singer, 1927) Rogue Valley earned its first franchise wins this weekend and it couldn’t have been more fun to watch!

SEATTLE TOTEMS (7-3-0) “You know what kind of plan never fails? No plan. No plan at all. You know why? Because life cannot be planned.” (Parasite, 2019) After starting off the season 7-0-0, Seattle dropped its first series this weekend in Vernal — though after a shaky Friday, the team played well despite falling both Saturday and Sunday.

VERNAL OILERS (7-0-0) “I don’t know about you, but I am planning to scream and run.” (Short Circuit, 1986) Two undefeated powerhouses in the Northwest Division came together this weekend, and Vernal took all three games – #1 in the nation? Not too shabby.

MOUNTAIN DIVISION

IDAHO FALLS SPUD KINGS (0-9-0) “…it ain’t how hard you can hit. It’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. It’s how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” (Rocky Balboa, 2006) The Spud Kings aren’t in the winning category yet, but Saturday’s matinee game in Ogden before the ECHL boys hit the ice shows they’re learning to play together — and this is when wins start to happen – also, if your tendy has to play to the end of a game … you should too.

NORTHERN COLORADO EAGLES (6-4-0) “After all, tomorrow is another day!” (Gone With the Wind, 1939) NoCo split its weekend series with visiting Provo in a couple close tendy battles, with Charles Anthony-Barbeau earning a shutout on Friday and Roussel allowing only two in a shutout loss to Provo on Saturday – they’ll be looking to get back in the win column as they host the Spud Kings on Saturday.

OGDEN MUSTANGS (6-2-0) “Please. Have mercy. I’ve been wearing the same underwear since Tuesday.” (Planes, Trains & Automobiles, 1987) Coach Orlando and his Mustangs had a great Friday and Saturday night, but as with past seasons, ran into the Sunday scaries, falling to Pueblo – some superstition somewhere is doing something…

PROVO PREDATORS (2-4-0) “So me and you are pretty much friends by now, right?” (Napolean Dynamite, 2004) This past week we got to sit down and talk with Gak & Misha of the Preds and it was a ton of fun, give it a listen (see link below)! Big shoutout to Bryson Stern in putting up the goose egg in NoCo on Saturday!

Pigeonhole Hockey S3E9: USPHL’s Provo Predators: Michael Gakhutishvili & Mikhail Mshar

PUEBLO BULLS (5-3-0) “So, you’re telling me there’s a chance!” (Dumb and Dumber, 1994) Pueblo fell in a close contest in Ogden on Friday night then fell again to Utah on Saturday, but ended the weekend on a high note with a nice bounce-back win to finish off the weekend in Ogden — but the true weekend highlight — Pueblo Bulls and Pigeonhole Hockey Podcast’s own Michelle Wells being picked up by the AHL Colorado Eagles!! CONGRATS MICHELLE!!!

UTAH OUTLIERS (6-0-1) “Of course…how selfish of me. Let’s do all the things you want to do.” (Ace Ventura, 1994) Opponents already feel the frustration when facing the Outliers, not only are this team winning, they’re running the show whether their opponents like it or not…

PACIFIC DIVISION

BAKERSFIELD ROUGHNECKS (2-6-0) “When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming!” (Finding Nemo, 2003) The Roughnecks got a nice couple weeks off and it couldn’t have come at a better time – it’ll be a good reset and preparation before hosting the always strong Monsters on Halloween weekend.

FRESNO MONSTERS (6-3-0) “Shh. Do you hear that? It’s the wind of change.” (Monsters, Inc., 2001) Fresno took two of three in the close weekend series set in Ontario, handing the Jr. Reign their first two losses of the year and eyeing that first place spot…

LAKE TAHOE LAKERS (1-8-0) “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” (Jaws, 1975) Like much of the Pacific, the Lakers…well, headed to the lake this weekend as they were off – the rest will be needed … as they host the visiting Monsters this weekend.

LAS VEGAS T-BIRDS (4-2-0) “Hey! There Are Skittles In There!” (The Hangover, 2009) The T-Birds got lost in the desert the last couple weeks after dropping two close contests to the Sabers in the first two days of October – well rested after all that time off, they’re going to be hungry, so expect them to come out swinging as they host the Shredders on Thursday.

LONG BEACH SHREDDERS (3-6-0) “Keep the change, ya filthy animal.” (Home Alone, 1990) The Shredders had a week off after besting the Lakers, taking two of three games the previous weekend, leaving a couple points on the table – though the rest is needed – as they’re off to Vegas to face the T-Birds on Thursday.

ONTARIO JR REIGN (8-2-0) “It’s just a flesh wound.” (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, 1975) The Reign were handed their first losses of the season by the Monsters this past weekend, but they’ll be looking to bounce back against the Shredders … after a well-earned weekend off.

SAN DIEGO SABERS (7-2-0) “Be afraid. Be very afraid.” (The Fly, 1986) San Diego earned a couple weekends off after besting the Monsters by taking two of three games in a home series – they’ll be well rested by the time Lake Tahoe visits for the Halloween weekend, so expect this series to be scary good.
