Drill of the Week- Jumping Rope
Simple drill to help with balance, footspeed, and edge control.
Two sticks or objects serve as place-markers for the skater to cross or stride over. A large pad or obstacle at the end of the pathway about 10′ from the sticks.
On go, the skater crossovers up the ladder, plants their feet and jumps, before reversing direction and doing it in the opposite direction. After the second jump the skater turns forward and drives off their inside edges towards the large jump-over pad.
Add stick swings from the coach to increase difficulty.
Fun drill for a small group, private lesson or even a station based practice. Kids enjoy it and it increases their confidence each time they do it.
