Trimble’s Drill of the Week- POP Drill and other forward skills

Video has parts of 3 different drills that we have used at a Forwards- Only skills session with our New England Wolves Jr program.

First Drill is the POP Heads Up Drill

  • 4 lines near the in zone faceoff dots.
  • on the whistle all four lines go- 2 on 0 at each end of the ice where you have to keep your head up in the neutral zone to evade a collision with the opposite end
  • Regroup, keep your speed and exchange at the far end before attacking the net you came from 2-0.
  • Have a set zone entry or play on the net youd like to see executed. In this video is Pass Off Pad but others could be:
    • Cut N Drive (using the ice behind the middle drive player)
    • Middle Lane Redirect
    • Look Off- to Cross Ice 1 Timer

The Other Drills in the Video include sequences where players have to retrieve pucks off the wall, make an evasive maneuver, get their head up and make a play on the net. Making plays off the wall is an underrated skill that should be practiced.

Hope you enjoy
